Five Questions for Chris Attrell, author of Forgotten Saskatchewan

Chris Attrell sm

 1. What inspired you to pursue photography as a career?

My inspiration for getting into photography started when I was very young, but I got fully into it when I began exploring back roads of western Canada, seeking out ghost towns and abandoned buildings.

2. What is the attraction you have to abandoned and "forgotten" properties?

The main attraction for abandoned places is the history and stories. The architecture that makes them great to photograph is a very close second.

3. What was it like to work on your first book?

Working on my first book was a mixture of a surreal feeling that someone actually wants to do my book and an incredible sense of excitement that I will walk into a bookstore and see my book on the shelf.

4. What would you like people to take away from this book?

What I would like people to take away after reading my book is that this part of Saskatchewan is in the process of disappearing. What is left won't last long and to appreciate it while you can.

5. Who is your greatest inspiration?

By far my greatest inspiration is my wife Kelly who never said no to any of my bad ideas because she knew one day it would end up being a good idea and she found what I did to be exciting which gets me excited.
